It was my best friend Shar’s birthday, and we decided on a country side getaway, somewhere we could switch off and just relax. Literally only a week before we were due for our getaway we found this great deal on Secret Escapes.
(Prices on the bottom of the post!)
The hotel is situated in an estate, and it is beautiful, and so grand! We were blown away on our drive up to the entrance. It is tucked in far from the main road, so unless you go to the hotel itself, you can’t see the magnitude of the entire estate.
We checked into the hotel just before 3pm, and we went to freshen up for our afternoon tea, which was included in the price of our stay. The room was beautiful, I took a video of the room which will be up soon…
The afternoon tea was served between 2-4pm in the main dining room, which again had the most exquisite interior. Beautiful paintings with intricate detailing on the ceiling. The cakes were divine! The bread on the sandwiches were so soft and flavours were wonderful. The only complaint I had was that the scones weren’t to my liking, it was dry and stodgy, but the chocolate cake was spectacular!
The hotel has a spa and swimming pool as well as a steam room and sauna, so we took a dip in the pool after our tea. The swimming pool was nice, it was busy, and that’s when we noticed that this was more of a couple’s retreat, literally, everyone in the pool were in couples apart from me and Shar! But it was funny, however I could see why there would be so many couples as it is a romantic place. But as I put it after a couple glasses of wine, it can also be a ‘best friend’s retreat…’ (haha!).
After our swim, we went to get ready for our dinner at 9pm, which was again being served in the main dining room. Dinner was also included in our stay. We had a 3 course meal, I ordered the fish cakes to start with, followed by gnocchi for my main and to finish I had the vanilla cheesecake. Overall I would say the food was mediocre, not the best but not the worst. We did splash out on a bottle of white wine from New Zealand which was divine!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at De Vere, it was beautiful and just what we needed. There will be more detail on the VLog, where you can see the room and the rest of the estate.
I hope you enjoyed my blog on the trip!
(We paid £199, for two people for one night, breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea included in the price)
